Roadwhisper — Privacy Policy

Roadwhisper ("the app") is an AI-powered audio tour guide for iOS. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and your rights.

1. Location Data

The app uses your device's GPS location to find nearby points of interest and generate audio stories about them. Your coordinates are sent to our server solely to search for nearby places. We do not store or log your precise GPS coordinates — they are used only to process your request and discarded immediately afterwards.

2. AI-Generated Content

When a nearby place is detected, a short description is generated by a third-party AI service (Groq). The request sent to the AI includes:

• The name and type of the place (e.g. "Stockholm Cathedral, church")
• Approximate coordinates of the place (not your location)
• The selected narration language and style

Your precise GPS location is not included in AI requests. Generated stories are cached on our server to improve performance.

3. Device Identifier

The app uses Apple's identifierForVendor — an anonymized, app-specific device identifier — to manage your account and track daily usage limits. This identifier is stored on our server and is not shared with third parties.

4. Server-Side Data

Our backend server (hosted in the EU) stores the following data linked to your device identifier:

• Daily narration count and reset date (to enforce free usage limits)
• Premium subscription status and expiry date
• Country code (derived from your IP address at first launch)
• Device model (e.g. "iPhone17,1")

No name, email address, or other personally identifiable information is collected.

5. Subscriptions and Purchases

If you subscribe to Roadwhisper Premium, your purchase is processed by Apple via the App Store. We receive a subscription token from Apple to verify your subscription status. The token and expiry date are stored on our server. We do not have access to your payment details — all billing is handled by Apple.

To manage or cancel your subscription, go to Settings → [Your Name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone or iPad.

6. OpenStreetMap Data

Place data is fetched from the OpenStreetMap Overpass API. Queries include your approximate location to find nearby places. OpenStreetMap's privacy policy applies: osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy.

7. Local Storage

The app stores the following data locally on your device only:

• Selected narration language, voice, and style preferences
• Diagnostic log files (shareable by the user on request)

8. Children's Privacy

The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available at this URL.
